This month we'll be discussing melancholia in modernism. Djuna Barnes wrote to Emily Coleman in 1938, 'Melancholia, melancholia, it rides me like a bucking mare’, and John Keats wrote an entire Ode to this troublesome emotion. Looking broadly at melancholy, we'll discuss the affective linkages between Romanticism and modernist works, looking at a short extracts from poetry and prose.
