About the event
This month we will discuss the various manifestations of materialism in both Romantic and modernist works.
Considering the way that environment and consciousness interact in Romanticist conceptions of natural and political sciences, we will explore the way that these theoretic developments might help us better understand materialism and nature in the avant-garde.
Examining extracts from Onno Oerlemans’ Romanticism and the Materiality of Nature, we will apply ideas of cultural and dialectical materialism to the treatment of nature in Romantic and modernist poetry.
